Sammy Hagar Wants Help Guns N' Roses

Sammy Hagar reckons he could help Guns N' Roses become the biggest band in the world. And he's got some choice words for his former bandmates too …

Sammy Hagar wants to save Guns N' Roses. Now that he is finished with Van Halen, the singer says he wishes to help Slash and Axl Rose reunite, proposing that he become the band's manager.

"[Guns N' Roses] could be the biggest band in the world if they wanted to," Hagar declared in an interview with the blog Attention Deficit Delirium. Now that the group has been nominated for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, it's the perfect opportunity for the classic lineup to patch things up. "The amount of money they could make if they got it all back together, made a great record and toured the world would probably be as much as the Rolling Stones [get]."

The problem, Hagar insists, is that Slash and Rose "just don't get along". If it were "about the money", the group would have reconciled long ago. "Axl goes out for a lot less money with his version of Guns N' Roses, and Slash goes out for a lot less money with Velvet Revolver or by himself. [But] they could do it. I would manage them. I'd be their manager and make sure they got the right deal from all the promoters."

Hagar is very familiar with band politics: he is still smarting from when he was dumped by Van Halen. "[I] don't see [my version of] Van Halen getting together again," he admitted. But Hagar's also skeptical of Van Halen's current lineup, with Wolfgang Van Halen replacing bassist Michael Anthony and David Lee Roth back at the mic. "They've been working on [a new] record for a year and a half or whatever, and they keep postponing and postponing it," he said. "Wolfie, Dave and Ed are not the Van Halen that the world wants to see … Those guys haven't made a good decision since I left the band." Maybe they should be managed by ACDC's Malcolm and Angus Young.
