Mindy McCready is back in the national spotlight that Mindy McCready is back in the national spotlight for being discovered in a closet with the five-year-old son she's accused of abducting, a lot of people who weren't necessarily paying much attention to the country side of music in the '90s may be wondering who this woman is.

McCready topped the country charts in 1996 with a tough-talking female empowerment anthem of sorts, "Guys Do It All The Time," in which she memorably set the scene with "Got in this morning at 4 a.m./You're as mad as you can be/I was drinkin' and talkin' and you know how that goes/Time just slipped away from me."

The video showed McCready playing poker with the girls, objectifying men and wearing boxing gloves.

That was McCready's second single. The first, "Ten Thousand Angels," peaked at No. 6 and shared a title with double-platinum debut album. The singer's second-biggest country hit arrived in 1997, "A Girl's Gotta Do (What a Girl's Gotta Do)." The sound is upbeat country pop as McCready responds to being dumped with "The first thing I did when you said goodbye was sit myself down and have a real good cry/The next thing I did was put my red dress on and go downtown dancing 'til the break of dawn." As she sings in the chorus, "A girl's gotta do what a girl's gotta do and now I've gotta get to gettin' over you/Too bad I gotta do it with someone new."

She represented a strong female voice on the radio, but radio lost interest and she never had another Top 10 hit. Her next single out of the box, "What If I Do," lost steam at No. 26, and the one after that, "You'll Never Know," became her last Top 40 country hit in 1998 when it hit No. 19.

Her 12th and final time on Billboard's country singles chart was in 2002 with "Maybe, Maybe Not," which stalled at No. 49.

Her latest album, the desperately titled "I'm Still Here," arrived in March 2010, earning a lukewarm review from Country Weekly and peaking at a disappointing No. 71 on Billboard's country album chart. That same year, she emerged as a new kind of star on "Celebrity Rehab," a depressing way to be remembered after showing so much promise on those early hits.

What Taylor Swift thinks of her new look

The 22-year-old songstress, Taylor Swift, who normally has long, curly hair, was spotting with brand new bangs and a stick straight style. Here's what she thinks of her new look:

How did you decide to cut your hair?
I was on a photoshoot and they wanted to do, like, clip-in bangs and straighten my hair. I just said, ‘Why don’t you just cut them?’ They did.

Is it hard to have bangs with curly hair?
It’s actually not. I think I can figure out a way to incorporate them, I was playing around with it in my hotel room and I think that it might work both ways, but we’ll see. It’s just fun to play around with your hair and change it up. I never change it up, so this is nice.

What inspired your transformation?
I wanted to change my look a little bit and I’ve loved the way that bangs look on other people. I always seem to want to straighten my hair in the winter. And I think I just decided to go a step further this time.

How does your style routine generally change in the winter?
I usually wear more jeans. Spring and summer, I’m usually all dresses and skirts, so winter is like jeans, leggings, tights, dresses, dark colors and straight hair.

Are there any pieces in particular you’ve invested in for winter?
I’ve gotten a lot of Rugby and Ralph Lauren stuff because I think it looks very winter-y and Christmas-y, so that’s been stuff I really liked getting.

What’s your go-to New Year’s Eve outfit, hair and makeup?
It would probably be some sort of sparkly dress and straight hair and maybe a bold smoky eye and a nude lip.

Vote For Christmas TV Shows

Edgewater-Davidsonville Patch

If you are wondering what holiday TV show or movie is on this holiday season, check out the blog, "It's A Wonderful Life," where some kind soul has managed to look up all the network listings and arrange the Christmas specials by date.

This weekend's shows include some old favorites like "It's A Wonderful Life" (8 p.m. Saturday on NBC), and some relatively new ones like "Jingle All the Way" (10 a.m. Sunday on Hallmark Channel).

My personal favorite for Christmas movies is "A Christmas Story," based on the writings of humorist Jean Shepherd. At our house we love to chant, "You'll Shoot Your Eye Out," if someone wants to do something risky or dare-devlish.

For Christmas TV Shows, my vote goes to...

Well, I'll vote in the poll. It's anonymous you know.

Mindy McCready wrote an email to The Associated Press

Country singer Mindy McCready and her son Zander, 5, are in custody after police discovered the mother and child hiding in a closet Friday night, U.S. Marshalls and Arkansas police said.

Officials from the Florida Department of Children and Families said the boy is safe and the agency is working to bring him from Arkansas back to his legal guardian in Florida.

The development is the latest in a four-day saga that began when McCready and her son vanished after a visit at her father's Cape Coral, Fla. Home on Tuesday. McCready popped up with a statement on Thursday, but refused to return Zander to the care of her mother, despite pre-determined custody arrangements and a subsequent court order, the boy's father told the Associated Press.

"I'm doing all this to protect Zander, not stay out of trouble," McCready wrote in an email to The Associated Press on Thursday. "I don't think I should be in trouble for protecting my son in the first place."

McCready said Zander was with her in Tennessee when she spoke out on Thursday, but said she couldn't travel because she's nearly seven-months pregnant with twins.

Gayle Inge, Zander's grandmother and McCready's mother, said the boy was with McCready and her boyfriend at his home Heber Spings, Arkansas, and that McCready had one point texted her half-brother, threatening that she would never see her mother again.

But concerned family were able to breathe a sigh of relief after the pair were located, safe and sound, hiding in the closet as police raided the home.

"I'm real excited that he's safe," Inge said. "But I can't explain what this is like. We feel for Mindy and we feel for Zander."

"I want to wrap my arms around her and tell her that I love her," Inge said.

It is not yet known if McCready will face criminal charges.
